STREET SCHOOLS AWARD DIPLOMAS TO RECORD NUMBER OF GRADUATES
Denver, CO -The StreetSchool Network in a recent poll of its member schools, has nearly doubled the number of high school graduates receiving diplomas in its network in 2009.
This year, 397 diplomas were awarded by member schools in comparison to 255 in 2008 and 210 in 2007. According to V.P. of Education Todd Goble, “This can not only be attributed to our network adding some schools of significant size, but also growth within current schools. What we are experiencing is exactly what we want to see. Students, who were at-risk of not earning a diploma, are finding success at a Street School and achieving a milestone that many thought were impossible.”

STREETSCHOOLS REACH ACCREDITATION MILESTONE
Denver, CO…April 6-8, 2009, Todd Goble, V.P. of Education for the StreetSchool Network™, was on-site at Tulsa Hope Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as a member of the NCA/CITA Standards Assessment Review Team which recommended that Tulsa Hope Academy be approved for accreditation by the Commission on International and TransRegional Accreditation (CITA), an accrediting division of AdvancED.
Official approval action of this recommendation will take place in June by the NCA CASI/AdvancEd Board. According to Mr. Goble, “I am thrilled to see The Tulsa Hope Academy unconditionally meet the NCA CASI/AdvancEd Quality Standards. They are doing a tremendous job at Tulsa Hope, and are rapidly becoming one of our most innovative and effective schools.”
For Tulsa Hope Academy Founder, Deb McCullough, “Accreditation means greatly increased opportunities for our students, from transferring credits to another high school to opening doors for admission to postsecondary schools. It also brings recognition to the community that we are providing quality education to students who are often denied the benefits of a quality, student-centered education”.
The StreetSchool Network™ began working as an accredited sponsoring corporation with CITA in 2006, to determine readiness and coach its member schools through the accreditation process as a means to ensure model adoption and school quality. For member schools, the candidacy period for accreditation typically ranges from 1-3 years in length. Meeting numerous readiness assessments and hosting a site visit are required to qualify to as a candidate.
“Our schools are unique in that we seek out and serve students that have experienced educational failure, or are students who academically vulnerable. Our network of schools has had great results in demonstrating the effectiveness of our model in helping these students become successful and have hope for the future.” said Goble.
AdvancED is the unified organization of the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI), and Commission on International and TransRegional Accreditation (CITA). AdvancED creates the world's largest education community, representing 27,000 public and private schools and districts across the United States and in 65 countries worldwide and educating 15 million students.
